Why a New Mattress Could be the Most Important Purchase of 2015

Every time the New Year rolls around, if you’re anything like me, it usually brings about a page long list of resolutions! This will be the year I lose 20 pounds, paint my whole house, and potty train the kids.  Then March rolls around and all of a sudden you realize (as you bite into that delicious piece of pie)….a lot of our resolutions end up falling through!

Featured imageI think my problem is I often aim too high, push myself too hard and have trouble following through. Well, I have a suggestion for you! Here’s a realistic resolution that is beneficial in more ways than one, and much EASIER than you think. Drumroll please….Treat yourself to a new mattress! I know what you’re thinking. Your 15 year old mattress has survived this long, what’s a couple more years? Here’s the deal. Investing in a good quality mattress with the right fit is proven not only to make you feel like a royal King or Queen, but will improve the quality of your sleep – equaling to a healthier, happier YOU! Sounds good right? It gets even better!

Simply enough…better rest equals less STRESS and increases performance! There are a lot of factors we cannot change. Our alarm clock will still beep loudly at 6am whether we like it or not. That huge presentation at work will still be due, bright and early. But getting a good nights rest with minimal tossing and turning throughout the night, will give you the right amount of energy needed to take on those tough moments we face throughout the day. Sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress can restrict blood flow to certain areas of your body.  For example, your hips and shoulders come into constant contact with your mattress. These create nagging pressure points which cause our body to be awakened in the middle of the night. A good mattress will reduce these pressure points, and guess what? More time in dreamland for you! You’ll wake up fresh and rested…ready to bring your A-Game for your major presentation, cultivating a stress free you!

DFeatured imageoes this sound familiar? Its 11pm. You’re in a deep sleep, curled up in your warm blanket and all of a sudden your partner jumps into bed and it feels like an 8.0 earthquake just shook the room! You get jolted out of your sleep, realize what it really was, and then spend the next half hour trying to put yourself back to sleep! That earthquake has a name, and it’s called “motion transfer.” Although it would be so easy to just blame it on your giant husband or furry Great Dane, the real culprit is likely your mattress. Not all mattresses are created equal. The good news is a lot of bedding manufacturers tailor their products to reduce motion transfer. Innerspring mattress companies like Simmons BeautyRest focus on individual pocketed coils that move independently from one another, decreasing the vibrations felt when moving around on a mattress. Tempur-Pedic uses layers of dense pressure relieving memory foam that adjusts to your personal weight, temperature, conforms to your body, resulting in reduced motion transfer. Instead of waking up in full midnight battle mode, you’ll wake up with the sun shining in your face, ready to make that fresh cup of coffee to start your day.
