OrganicPedic – The “Green” Mattress

Its lunch break and you are craving fruit. You go to the grocery store looking for an apple, or maybe a mango or two. You enter the produce area and instead of seeing one pile of apples, there are two! Puzzled, you look closer. Both appear the same, so after you read the label, you notice one apple says “organic.” The organic apple is also a dollar more. You think to yourself, why on Earth should I pay the extra dollar for this apple? What makes it so special?

This scenario? Totally me. I am known to vicariously live in the moment. I am a true procrastinator, and I always tell myself, it WILL get done….eventually. When it comes to my health, it is no different. I should take vitamins, but I don’t. I should choose a salad instead of the burger and fries, but I don’t! But then I wonder, why do I get so many headaches all the time? Why do I wake up sluggish and out of energy? What if I made some small changes to my lifestyle now to prepare for a better future? For the twins future?

Going Organic has definitely become more than a trend for many of us. It has become a lifestyle. Not only do we choose organic at the grocery store, but we try to incorporate less toxins into every day items such our cleaning products, make up, and children’s needs such as diapers and creams. We choose to go organic in day to day items because we interact with them so closely. Food is ingested, cleaning products and makeup touch our skin. We want to make sure we are taking in the least amount of toxins as possible.

Here’s a thought to consider. What is a very important category that is commonly overlooked when it comes to “living an organic lifestyle?” Good guess! Your mattress! Think about it. At night when you turn off the lights and hop into bed, your head touches your pillow… or for some us, skips the pillow altogether and goes directly onto your sheets and mattress. Your head remains there for hours on end, in direct contact. If you are someone who is deeply conscious about what touches your skin and what you are breathing in, or want to move towards starting an organic lifestyle and are just not sure where to begin, your mattress may be a good place to start!

One of the most overlooked categories of organic products are mattresses, but they could very well be the most important!

Drumroll please… Introducing OrganicPedic! Created by Organic Mattress Inc (OMI), it is the number one selling organic mattress in the United States. No other organic mattress manufacturer out there can match the purity standards of Organicpedic. What does this mean to you? You can sleep 100% toxin free on a mattress that is BOTH pressure relieving and healthy at the same time! Now here’s where we get into the good part. OMI utilizes 3 ingredients in their mattresses. Certified Organic cotton, Eco Wool and natural rubber latex. Starting with premium grade American grown cotton batting, it is pre-sanitized to make sure it is 100% chemical free. The organic Eco Wool is straight from free grazed, hormone free sheep that actually hang out in pesticide free meadows! Wool is awesome because it is a great temperature regulator, making sure you don’t sleep too hot or too cold. Wool also serves as a natural flame resistant barrier, meeting all Federal standards. Last but definitely not least is the natural rubber latex. This is the bread and butter of the bed. Latex is a very buoyant, pressure relieving material that instantly supports you without giving you a “sinking” feel. The latex found in the Organicpedic beds is sustainably harvested and comes directly from the sap of the rubber tree. This means that it is 100% natural and meets USDA standards. Latex is naturally mold, mildew and dust mite resistant.

These jars contain the 3 100% organic materials that are found in all Organicpedic mattresses. Wool, cotton and natural latex.

At SlumberWorld, we feature three different kinds of Organicpedic mattresses. The Midori is a 7” in depth, featuring 6” of pure, wonderful, organic latex. It has a firmer feel and was designed in the fashion of a Japanese style sleep system.

The Lago Nouveau is 10.5” deep, featuring a comfortable pillow top, 6” latex core and a soft sculpted internal layer for added padding and comfort. The latex on all of the mattresses is breathable and allows air to channel through to prevent sleeping too warm.

The Terra is 12” thick and features a button down pillow top layer that can be used on either side. It can actually be removed to use as a guest room mattress in a pinch! The pillow top features two surface options, sculpted on one side and flat on the other for maximum comfort and flexibility.

Equally as exciting as the organic mattresses themselves are the wool and latex toppers they offer! For example, the Midori might feel a little bit too firm for some, but add on a 3” wooly topper and….presto! Instant cozy comfort, with a nice nestled feel. Looking for extra conformability and support? Try the 2” Verona latex topper. This increases the adaptability of the mattress without taking away from the buoyant latex feel!
